BikeBingle is Google maps based application that is designed to enable cyclists from around the world to log and geo-tag any accidents they have. The idea being to build up a database of accidents highlighting black spots on our roads.
Lachlan Hurst the designer of the website suggests that
the functionality may be of use to a commuter planning a new route as BikeBingle may assist in helping the cyclist to avoid the most accident prone locations. It may also be of benefit to be made aware of specific dangers at a given location, for example a troublesome pothole that has caused a few ‘off’s’, frequent doorings along a stretch of road, and so on.
I am not sure how well the website is being supported by cyclists as for example I couldn’t find any reports for Western Australia and the eastern states major cities seemed to only have a few reports. That said if cyclists get behind it, it may well work. Anyhow please do check it out and let us know what you think via the comments option below.
