Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic – September 19, 2009

*** For a great write-up from one rider’s experience check out Fairy’s Tales blog posting,  Dwellingup 100 (104) ***.

The Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic, scheduled for September 19 2009, is a new mountain bike race and participation event for Western Australia.

The 2009 Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic being held on September 19, 2009 is the inaugural event so a chance to get in on the ground floor!  The Classic is being held in Dwellingup just to the south of Perth; about an 1 1/2 hour drive away.  The course is split into a southern 40 km section and a northern 60 km section with the opportunity to stop for food etc at the start point before moving on to complete the 60 km northern section.

According to the Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic website, the course can be summarized as follows:

20% awesome single track.
40% great fire trail that is as good as single track.
30% fire trail and gravel tracks.
10% road and bitumen.

Format

The Classic consists of three levels of riding/racing:

The 100km Dwellingup Classic;

The 40km Dwellingup Le Grande’;

and the participation event the 14 km D14.

The D14 has no categories D14, although you must be 10 years of age or older to ride it. The D14 is not a race and hence is not timed. Maybe one for the kids and those looking to have a little taste of mountain biking.

Dwellingup Le Grande (40km) is split into four main categories: Under 17 male and females, under 19 male and females; open male and females 19 to 39 and for us oldies, veteran male and females 40 and up.

Dwellingup 100 Classic, the big one has a minimum entry age of 18 and is split into three categories: Open male and females 18 to 39; masters (sounds better than veterans) male and female 40 to 49 and finally seniors male and female 50 plus.

To register or get more details please click through to the Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic website.  I hope you get the opportunity to support this event. Western Australia is really lacking good participation events and hence the more these events such as the Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic are supported the more chance we have of getting more.

    I did the 14 km. It was realy hard. There was a guy called Tim who was a world champion Mountian biker and he now works at Kalamunda Cycles. He sped off and we didn’t see him untill the presentations. My time was 51 minuets.

      Hi. Good to hear you had a good ride. Tim (and his wife) own Kalamunda Cycles. I brought Julia from them.
