Gateway WA Project – Road Closures Impacting Cyclists

Gateway WA Cyclists

Mainroads WA have advised that ongoing and intermittently from February 17 to March, 2014 (that is sometime in March I guess) number of closures and changed traffic conditions will be in place over the coming months to facilitate works for the Gateway WA Project which will impact on cyclists and pedestrians.

During these works, access to closed sections of the road will not be permitted for cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to seek an alternate route and follow all signage in and around the area.

Cyclists and pedestrians will be impacted due to the Gateway WA project in the following sections:

February 17 – 18, 2014

  • Roe Highway / Tonkin Highway interchange Forrestfield Roe Highway to Tonkin Highway southbound on-ramp
  • Roe Highway / Tonkin Highway interchange – Forrestfield Tonkin Highway northbound off-ramp to Roe Highway

February 20 – 23, 2014

Between  7.00 pm to 7.00 am Abernethy Road – Cloverdale Kew Street to Leach Highway will not be available to cyclists and pedestrians due to the Gateway WA project overnight works.

February 24 – 28, 2014

Between 7.00 pm to 5.00 am – Tonkin Highway – Kewdale Horrie Miller Drive to Abernethy Road will not be available to cyclists and pedestrians due to the Gateway WA project overnight works.

March 6 – 9, 2014

Between 7.00 pm to 7.00 am -Abernethy Road – Cloverdale Kew Street to Leach Highway will again not be available to cyclists and pedestrians due to the Gateway WA project overnight works.

March 11 – 12, 2014

Between 11.00 pm to 5.00 am – Tonkin Highway – Kewdale – Horrie Miller Drive to Abernethy Road will  not be available to cyclists and pedestrians due to the Gateway WA project overnight works.

How has the Gateway WA Project Impacted on your Cycling?

I don’t generally ride through this area and I must admit I am not that keen on the idea of riding the likes of Tonkin Highway but I appreciate that people work and live in the general area so it would be great to get your input into how the Gateway WA project is impacting on your cycling and how these closures will impact.  Is the pain worth the long-term outcomes?
