Life on the Road in 2010 – Week 28

The purpose of this series of posting is to summarise my week on the bike and exercising in general.  My week runs from Friday to Thursday, so Week 28 for 2010 is from July 9, 2010 through to July 15, 2010.

Walking distance is based on the use of a Global Corporate Challenge pedometer and their calculation that 1,563 steps equals 1 km. The Challenge officially started on May 20, 2010.

In summary my statistics for the week are:

Exercise for the week:

I rode 235 km for a total for the year of 8,600 kilometres or 307 km per week average.  My goal weekly average is 270 km so a comfortable buffer there at present. The kilometres are down this week as I was in Singapore for four days for work.  That said I actually got out on Bicycle Shaped Object (BSO) (read I hired a bicycle) in Singapore with the intention of completing the East Coast Park Connector Network (PCN) loop.  The loop is 42 km but due to poor signage and no map I was not able to complete the full loop as planned so I estimate I did about 22 km of it.  Hopefully when I return later in the year I will have an opportunity to ride the full loop. The balance of the kilometres for the week was my regular commuting.

With respect to  BikeJournal my ranking at the week end was position 109 and in the Australian Cycling Forums Club I was sitting in eight place, so no change on this front.  I am every so slowly gaining on the Top 100 being 140 kilometres off the pace at the end of this week.

On the walking front I took 84871 steps during the week which equates to 54.30 kilometres.  My daily average at Global Corporate Challenge sits at 28,408 steps per day.  I think to win the Challenge at work I really need to get that over 31,000 steps per day.

Weight:

On the weight front, I started the year in a less than healthy position at 103 kg. My weight at the end of the week is 97.2 kg. Lost 500 grams this week which is good considering I went to Singapore. Singapore and weight loss have an inverse relationship for me.  Also my measurements with the exception of the chest are indicating I am ever so slowly shrinking so some positive news there as well.  My total weight loss for year is 5.9 kg.
