Tacx Brake Shoe Tuner T4580 – Shed Test

Tacx Brake Shoe Tuner T4580

I have been using Tacx Brake Shoe Tuner T4580 for a while now, so thought it was time I commented on my experience with this tool.

I suspect that more experienced bicycle mechanics or home mechanics probably see this tool as pointless, but I find it quite handy, particulary when playing with the cantilever brakes on the Surly Long Haul Trucker. I don’t set-up my brakes that often so don’t have the level of experience that makes this a straight forward task. This is where the Tacx Brake Shoe Tuner comes into play, helping me to get the brakes balanced both sides and the gap pretty right.

It is a little fiddly to use and I do find it sets the pads a touch to close to the rim for me, but other than that it really makes brake tuning a fairly simple process. I know that I will continue to use this handy tool.  As it turns out I haven’t bothered to use it much at all so not as handy as initially thought it would be – added February 9, 2013.
