A recent letter to the editor of the Joondalup Times (October 25, 2012) and posted at in my Community caught my attention. The letter was from a Mr Bill Daking of Kingsley who has written previously to the Joondalup Times on traffic matters but not it seems from my Google search results on motorists using mobile phones, the road toll or not whether his use of his vehicle’s horn was appropriate.

International Energy Services

In February 2012 I experienced a very unpleasant incident involving unsafe driving by an International Energy Services operator whilst I was riding my bicycle in a legal safe manner on the road as one is allowed to.  I can assure you that being bullied, no worse by the operator of a truck is a pretty damn scary experience when one is on a cyclist. What do you think are the chances of surviving being hit by an truck such as those operated by International Energy Services? Not very good.  Having raised my concerns with International Energy Services who contract for Shell Australia who is also a party to the Corporate Approach to Road Safety initiative it is very disappointing to find that little has changed and that International Energy Services still consider it okay to put cyclists lives at risk. Well Mr Stenta it is not okay!

Guildford Road bridge shared path

Guildford Road bridge shared path new surface

In a positive news announcement the Bicycle Transport Alliance has reported that two years of lobbying on behalf of cyclists by the Alliance has paid off with the recent resurfacing of the shared path on the Guildford Road bridge, Guildford Road, Bassendean.  A thanks also goes out to Mr Colin Ward, Bicycling and Pedestrian Coordinator at Main Roads WA for his efforts in getting this small but important piece of cycling infrastructure upgraded.
