The Royal Automobile Association of South Australia Inc have produced a short video to promote vigilance while driving to it’s members (and cyclists). Thanks to Angus Kingston at Adelaide Cyclist the video is now on You Tube and shared here.
I think it is a good video and provides good advice except with one exception shown at approximately 2:39. It seems that the Royal Automobile Association of South Australia needs to come up to speed on its own states road laws.
The relevant section of the South Australian Road Code is:
141—No overtaking etc to the left of a vehicle
(1) A driver (except the rider of a bicycle) must not overtake a vehicle to the left of the vehicle unless:
(2) The rider of a bicycle must not ride past, or overtake, to the left of a vehicle that is turning left and is giving a left change of direction signal.
and from a Western Australian perspective, the Western Australian Road Code 2000 states in Section 122 (4)
The rider of a bicycle shall not ride past, or overtake, to the left of a vehicle that is making, or apparently about to make, a left turn, or is signalling a left turn.
Anyway on to the video …
