Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection Bicycle Recalled in Australia

Recalled Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection Bicycle

Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection bicycles have been recalled by Product Safety Recalls Australia in-cooperation with the Porsche Cars Australia Ltd due to an issue the Magura MT8 brakes fitted to the bicycles.  Apparently the brakes are prone to a sudden failure when operated in temperatures below minus 10 Celsius.

Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection Brake defect

It seems, according to Product Safety Recalls Australia that there is a risk that the Magura MT8 disc brakes fitted to Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection bicycles may malfunction at lower temperatures. When Product Safety Recalls Australia mean lower temperatures, they really mean that. They specifically suggest that the malfunction, a sudden brake fail, is more likely to occur at temperatures of minus 10 C and below, yep you read that right, -10 C and below (14 F for those still measuring temperatures in the old language). Somehow I can’t imagine too many situations where you are likely to be riding any bicycle at temps below -10 C in Australia net alone a Magura MT8 equipped Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection but still, I guess it is a safety defect and hence the recall.

Therefore my suggestion is that if you own a Magura MT8 equipped Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection and are concerned, you should contact the official Porsche Centre you purchased the bicycle from to arrange for an immediate replacement of the brake system.  To help decide if you bicycle is one that has been recalled, the identifying features of the recalled bicycles are WAP0200160C; WAP0200260C; WAP0200360C. If these are serial numbers does this mean a recall effecting three bicycles?

For Australian consumers if you want further information on this recall please contact Porsche Cars Australia Ltd.

If you own another brand of bicycle with Magura MT8 brakes fitted and are concerned you might want to ask Product Safety Recalls Australia why a recall has not been made on your bicycle model as well. Of course the Magura MT8 fitted to the Porsche Bike RS Driver’s Selection maybe a specific model for this bike.

The temperature on the top of Mount Wellington, Hobart, was -12C because of the windchill factor in the air blowing in from Antarctica, despite the temperature at sea level being in the mid-teens in mid-May 2007.
The windchill temperature in the Snowy Mountains can get below -10C. The windchill dropped the temperature to -10C at Silverton, near Broken Hill, during filming of Mad Max II.
