| This page is still to be substantially developed, however thanks to a
contribution from Nina, we have
our first trip report on hiking in this area. I am very keen on this sort of
contribution on any walks in Western Australia. So if you would like your
name "up in lights" with your Track Report please email
me to discuss.
General Information
The Stirling Range National Park is located approximately 80 kms
north of the coastal town of Albany. The highest peak in the range is
Bluff Knoll at 1 073 m. The range itself is approximately 65 km east -
west. Within the Park there are number of challenging short on tracks walks.
If you are interested in exploring further in the Park you
need to make "your own tracks". For example John
Chapman describes a three day circuit hike from Bluff Knoll to Pyungoorup
Peak and return.
Some suggested short walks in the Park include:
Bluff Knoll - 6 km
Toolbrunup Peak - 4 km
Mt Trio - 3 km
Mt Hassell - 4 km
Mt Magog - 8 km
Talyuberlup - 3 km
The
Porongurup National Park is located approximately 40 kms north of
Albany. The Porongurup Range, the centre piece of the park is 12 kilometres
long and reaches to a height of 670 metres. Like its neighbour, the Stirling
Range National Park, within Porongurup there are a number of challenging short
on track walks and if you want to venture further, you will need to make your
own way. The short walks include:
The Pass - 2 km
Devil's Slide - 4 km
Maramabup Rock - 5 kms (via Devils Slide)
Hayward Peak - 3 km
Nancy Peak and MorgansView - 4 km
Castle Rock - 3 km
Wansbrough Walk (across the range) - 4 km
Millinup Pass - 3.3 km
