Trek Bicycles with disc brakes and quick release levers have been recalled by Product Safety Recalls Australia in-cooperation with Trek Bicycle Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd due to a possibility that the quick release lever may contact the brake disc assembly.
Trek Bicycles with Disc Brakes and Quick Release Defect
Product Safety Recalls Australia are advising that Trek bicycles equipped with disc brakes and quick release levers have a problem in that the levers can open far enough to contact the brake disc assembly.
It seems that if the quick release lever is left open or it is opened 180 degrees it can become caught in the disc brake assembly.
A list of the Trek bicycles subject to the recall is available for download from my Dropbox.
Trek Bicycles with Disc Brakes and Quick Release Recall: Action to take
It seems that Trek Bicycles with disc brakes and quick release levers have been sold since September 1, 1999 until April 22, 2015. That is potentially a lot of bicycles! If you have one of these Trek bicycles you should stop using your bicycle and take it a Trek dealer for inspection and if necessary replacement of the quick release lever. Bicycles that have already been fitted with a special quick release with washers will receive a replacement quick release with washers and a different lever.
