The Western Australian Government department, the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) has developed an informative website listing all DEC campgrounds in Western Australia.
The website is called DEC Campgrounds. Campgrounds are grouped by region (Coral Coast, Golden Outback, North West, Perth, South West) and clicking on the region link brings up a Google map highlighting the location of each park.
Clicking on a marker brings up more details about the campsite. Alternatively one can list all campsites in a region or search by other details, such as name.
For each campsite there is a range of information provided including details about the campground, additional information which is generally local activities and how to get there instructions, a photo gallery and a map (Google). A button is also provided to allow for campsite specific contact to be made direct to DEC.
Also if the campsite requires booking, this can be done online straight from the website. It seems that from 2011 more campsites will require booking so do keep this in mind.
What is missing is any GPS data download options such as GPX files or location coordinates and also a RSS feed to keep up to date on the news (e.g., campsite closures) which are posted to the front page.
That said DEC Campgrounds looks like a great resource for planning that next camping or bicycle touring trip.
