Having recently completed my second end to end of the Cape to Cape Track and another bicycle tour and the big one, the Dreaming Tour
coming in July 2012 (became the Chasing the dirt – Out and back to Burringurrah (Mt Augustus) by bicycle tour instead) I felt it was a good time to revise and maintain a list of my bicycle touring and bushwalking gear.

My bicycle touring and bushwalking gear lists are very fluid lists, regularly being updated and tweaked as a I prepare for rides and bushwalks and when I come back from same. I seem to be forever looking at new gear and ways to lighten the load whilst also making it that more comfortable. So this gear list is very dynamic. Also for my Chasing the Dirt tour, being a longer bicycle tour taking in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia a more specific set of gear or rather the addition of extra gear and load lightening needed to take place. Therefore I have split my gear list into two lists. One for bushwalking and one for bicycle touring with my gear list workbook now consisting of two spreadsheets: one for bushwalking and one for bicycle touring. Just click on the tab at the bottom of the workbook to select the appropriate list.
My bicycle touring and bushwalking gear lists are available for download as an Excel spreadsheet. You are most welcome to download it and modified to suit your own needs if desired. I am happy to try and provide it in other formats if you cannot read Excel spreadsheets. Please just leave your request in the comments box below.
If you are interested in a lightweight model of bushwalking (hiking) which could apply pretty much to bicycle touring as well please check out Mark’s story of transitioning to a lightweight bushwalker. Great gear list given by Mark and something I need to aspire to for sure.
