The Kiwi’s (New Zealanders) have their ASB Cycle Friendly Awards which were devised by CAN (Cycling Advocates Network) and have been running since 2003. The purpose of the Awards is to acknowledge and celebrate some of the most notable achievements in the country that are helping to promote cycling and to create a cycle-friendly environment.
My question is do we do this in Australia or Western Australia? Maybe this is something that the Bicycle Transport Alliance or Bicycling Western Australia could consider doing.
In the Kiwi awards there are nomination categories for:
- Best Cycle Facility Project
- Best Cycling Promotion Project
- Cycle Friendly Commitment by a Business
- Cycle Friendly Commitment by a Public Organisation
- Cycling Champion of the Year
If you have any nominations for any of these categories in Western Australia please post a comment below with the details. Lets have our own unofficial promotion of good cycling.
The Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards were announced last week, they have been held since 2002.
