The Garmin Edge 800 is coming. The word on the street is the Australian release will be late October/early November if not later but in time for Christmas for sure. Funny that :).
Australian pricing according to Rob at Highly Tuned Athletes will be:
Garmin Edge 800 unit only AU $499
The bundle option appears to be a lesser option to that on offer in the US where City Navigator is part of the package.

Update – November 12, 2010 – Australian pricing now includes map bundling.
Rob Grinter of Highly Tuned Athletes has advised that Garmin Edge 800 will now be released in Australia with the full Aus/NZ Topo maps pre loaded. The Australian delivery is now scheduled for November 12, 2010. I have now confirmed and paid for my unit from Highly Tuned Athletes so hopefully delivery will take place soon after November 12.
Update – September 28, 2010 – UK Pricing is now available
Probikekit’s pricing starts at approximately $442.00. There is no breakdown as to the different packages as yet, but you can sign-up for a stock notification.
Wiggle are currently listing a Garmin Edge 800 + Great Britain Discoverer 1:50k Trail Bundle for $498 with a mid-October expected delivery. Unless you are planning to ride in Great Britain not a great bundle. This bundle does not include a cadence sensor or HRM strap.

hmm. I use HTC Desire with MyTracks application and GPS, which is free (not the phone of course). MapMyTracks also have a free web site you can upload the .gpx files and keep a history.. see here for a sample http://www.mapmytracks.com/explore/track/69528
Maybe not as detailed as a bike computer.. but does the job for me.

Hi
There are a number of reasons I don’t use my phone as a bike computer. These include:
(1) Not waterproof;
(2) Not robust. I am not willing to risk unnecessary damage to my phone from an off;
(3) Generally lack the capabilities of a sophisticated bike computer;
(4) Battery life and I would like my phone available for emergency use;
(5) General functionality, e.g., response time on the GPS.
There has been a bit of discussion of this aspect in the Australian Bicycle Forums which you might find interesting.
Regards
Andrew
