CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE: Meelup Regional Park Cycle Trails Survey

IMG 2262

The Meelup Regional Park Management Committee (MRPMC), in association with the Cape Mountain Bikers, are seeking community views on whether to end a prohibition on cycling in specifically designated areas of Meelup Regional Park. There is a view that limited bike riding along already established trails considered suitable for cycle use, may be acceptable in the reserve and community feedback should be sought.

A Trails Concept Plan developed by the MRPMC in conjunction with the Cape Mountain Bikers, provides a first stage development of cycle use in the park reserve.  The community feedback survey aims to gauge the level of support for the inclusion of limited bicycle trails in the reserve.  It should be noted that trails identified in the Concept Plan as ‘proposed for cycle use’, already exist and are not new.  These trails are currently used as either firebreaks, walk trails or informal mountain bike trails.

The results of the survey will inform a proposed amendment to the Meelup Regional Park Management Plan (2010) and subsequently the Shire of Busselton’s Local Government Property Law 2010 which currently prohibits cycling in these specifically designated areas of the park.

The Meelup Regional Park Trails Concept Plan is available on the survey page.  Further information is in the Meelup Regional Park MOU and Trails Policy also available on the the survey page, or visit the Meelup Park website, The survey can be found on the Shire of Busselton website.

Once you have completed the survey please send an email to with Survey Completed in the subject field to allow the Cape Mountain Bikers verify the results.

The survey closes at 5:00 PM on Monday August 29, 2011.
