Ortlieb Ultimate 6 Pro Handlebar Bag

Ortlieb Ultimate 6 Pro Handlebar Bag

I am a bit of a fan of Ortlieb products and currently use a Ortlieb Bike-Packer Plus panniers, Ortlieb Sports-Packer Plus panniers and a Ortlieb Ultimate 5 Handlebar bag so hearing of the forthcoming Ortlieb Ultimate 6 Pro handlebag has sparked my interest. Particularly as it seems that the bag can be both locked to the bike and also have its lid locked; something that I really miss with my Ultimate 5.

Details on the new Ultimate 6 Pro are a bit sketchy at the moment with nothing on the Ortlieb website [Update December 29, 2012: Ortlieb is now listing the Ultimate 6 Pro on their website] nor at my normal source, Bike24 for things bicycle out of Germany but there are some German retailers listing the bag and from those websites it seems that the new bag’s features include:

  • Lockable mounting system, similar I guess to the current mounting bracket;
  • The bag’s lid is now has a magnetic closure which is lockable;
  • The transparent lid of the handlebar bag is designed to work with GPS and smartphones that have touch screens; i.e., apparently you will be able to operate the device through the lid;
  • Mesh pocket;
  • The main compartment of the Ultimate 6 Pro can be divided into smaller compartments through the use of padded velcro dividers;
  • Base looks for equipment fixing;
  • Shoulder strap;
  • Reflectors;
  • Compatible with Klickfix mountings.
  • The medium Ultimate 6 Pro has a seven litre capacity and weighs 800 grams.

I also understand that for those who prefer to use a map, there will be a map case which attaches to the lid of the Ultimate 6 Pro handlebar bag along the lines of the existing Ultimate 5 handlebar bag series.

    have you been using this bag? thoughts?

      Sorry for the delay in replying Ryan. No I haven’t played with the new model and going by what I have read online I don’t think I will be bothering in the near future. I am pretty happy with my older style Ortlieb handlebar bag and will stick with it for now at least.

    I would very much like to find more information about the waterproof pocket, as I hate the floppy design of the current one (external map case).
    What is the size of the space, could I fit an iPan mini in there as a digital map for example? Could you post some photos of details of the opening etc.

      Sorry but I don’t have one of these models so cannot answer you directly. Hopefully someone else will have the information and reply.
