Recalled Shimano BR-R515 Mechanical Disc Brake

Various models of Shimano mechanical disc brake calipers have recalled by Product Safety Recalls Australia in-cooperation with Shimano due to an issue with the possibility of the steel balls inside the cam mechanism of the disc brake caliper falling out resulting in a loss of braking power.

Shimano Mechanical Disc Brake Defect

Product Safety Recalls Australia are advising that there is a risk that Shimano mechanical disc brakes, models BR-CX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315 may fail. Apparently a limited number of these units have been sold as an aftermarket item (or imported by customers directly) but the majority of mechanical brake units were sold as part of complete bicycles.

In Australia, the affected bicycle models are: Specialized Roubaix SL4, BMC GF02, BH RX Team Cyclocross 105 and Cannondale Road Tandem 1 sold between February 2012 and September 2013.

If you have one of these bicycle models or have purchased one of the brake models directly you are advised to stop using the bicycle/brakes immediately and see your local bike shop for an inspection or call Shimano Australia Cycling on 1300 731 077 or e-mail
