Great post Andrew. This question doesn’t pertain to the post but in terms of training for endurance (say 70kms), will going to the gym and doing appropriate exercises significantly improve performance or should I just focus on actually riding 70km? I ride everyday in and sometimes out of Perth myself and keen to know your insight.

Thanks Joshua. My approach is to do my normal riding but I also do a ‘bootcamp’ three times a week. This regime was in place prior to riding the Holland Track and I really noticed the difference (positive) compared to my previous tours where it took me a lot longer to get into the groove of it. On the Holland Track I was on top of it from the start.

So in summary, for me is normal riding (say up to 50 km once a week plus daily commuting) and the gym or similar.
