Mainroads Western Australia has advised that a detour will be in place on the Fremantle Principal Shared Path [PSP] due to the demolition and replacement of the Ashton Avenue Bridge in Claremont. The bridge will be closed from February 1, 2018. The demolition of the old bridge is scheduled to occur on the weekend starting February 23, 2018. The project is due to be completed by September 2018 so expect the detour to be in place for some time.
All things transporting oneself by bicycle. A environmentally friendly and healthy car free zone.
The Western Australian bicycle lobbying group that acted on behalf of commuting and transport cyclists, the Bicycle Transport Alliance [BTA] has effectively ceased operations. They are describing it as suspension of activities but realistically I do not believe they will be back. It is not sexy to engage in activism in cycling; one has to run events to be “important” after all.
The City of Perth has taken on an idea I first saw in action with the City of Cockburn with their “What do you think about Transport in Perth” interactive website. At the City of Perth Transport Strategy website you can “add a spot” to the map pointing out transport issues, what transport routes you like and why, and share you ideas on how the City of Perth can improve movement across the city.
